BUILDING BLOCKS TO MAKE YOURSELF ARCHITECTURE READY

If you are interested in pursuing a career in architecture, here are some building blocks to help you prepare:

  • 1.     Education: A formal education is typically required to become an architect. You will need to earn a professional degree in architecture from an accredited institution. This can be a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) or a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree.
  • 2.     Experience: Along with your education, gaining practical experience through internships or apprenticeships can be invaluable. This can help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to be successful in the field.
  • 3.     Skills: Architecture requires a combination of technical and creative skills. Some of the key skills you will need include design skills, drafting and modeling skills, knowledge of building codes and regulations, and communication skills.
  • 4.     Knowledge: A deep understanding of architecture history, theory, and criticism is also important. You should be well-versed in the different architectural styles and movements, as well as the social and cultural contexts in which buildings are designed and constructed.
  • 5.     Technology: Technology is a key part of architecture today. You will need to be proficient in software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modeling programs. Familiarity with sustainable design and building information modeling (BIM) is also increasingly important.
  • 6.     Portfolio: A strong portfolio is essential for showcasing your design skills and experience. This should include examples of your design work, technical drawings, and any other relevant projects you have worked on.
  • 7.     Licensure: Finally, to practice as an architect, you will need to obtain licensure from the state in which you plan to work. This typically involves passing the Architect Registration Exam (ARE) and completing an internship program. In India it is COA Council of architecture.
